The start of a new year is the perfect time to ensure your organization is compliant and prepared for 2017. Building off last year’s checklist, these extra tasks are a great way to make sure your organization starts 2017 on the right track.
- Review your Hiring and Recruiting Practices: Schedule time to talk with your team managers about any upcoming job openings or hiring needs for the first few months of 2017. Analyze your recruiting, hiring and onboarding practices for any changes your organization can make that would allow the hiring process to run smoother.
- Conduct an Organization-Wide Wage Analysis: The beginning of the year is a great time to review what you’re paying employees. To start, your organization will want to be sure you’re kept up with any changing laws or regulations to remain compliant. Additionally, you will also want to ensure that your more highly-paid employees are receiving a competitive salary, or risk losing them to opportunities elsewhere.
- Cultivate Leaders: Good leaders are hard to find, but they’re essential to any organizations’ success. Review your training and development practices at every level, and look for opportunities to invest in additional training, mentorship or leadership development programs.
- Recognize your Employees: Remember, high employee morale (or lack thereof) directly affects your bottom line. Tell your employees that you appreciate their hard work, and don’t underestimate the power of positive recognition when it comes to employee satisfaction and retention.
Every year brings new challenges to employers, but that doesn’t mean your organization has to be unprepared. By taking the above steps, you can be sure that your organization is well on its way to meeting the challenges the New Year will bring.
